Business Simulations That Bring Leadership Challenges to Life

Complex problems. Competing priorities. Difficult decisions. What would you do?

You've just stepped into a senior leadership role.

The organisation is facing a problem. You've been given a collection of reports, financial information, emails and meeting notes.

Everyone has a different view about what's going wrong. The CEO wants an answer. The Finance Director is challenging your assumptions. And you don't have all the information you'd like.

Welcome to a Resound business simulation.

Our simulations put people into realistic organisational situations where they must analyse information, exercise judgement, make decisions and influence others.

There isn't always a perfect answer. That's rather the point.

What is a business simulation?

A business simulation is an immersive learning experience in which participants take responsibility for responding to a realistic organisational challenge.

Rather than being presented with a case study and asked to discuss it, they step into a role and work through the situation as it develops.

They might have to examine business performance, identify competing priorities, challenge senior stakeholders or recommend a course of action.

The information isn't always complete. Different stakeholders may have different agendas. And decisions often involve trade-offs.

The simulation creates an opportunity to practise the thinking and behaviours required in complex roles, without the consequences of making mistakes in a real organisation.

How our business simulations work

We design simulations around the capabilities people need to develop.

A typical simulation can include:

A realistic fictional organisation

Participants receive background information about the business, its operating environment, current challenges and key stakeholders.

A challenging leadership brief

They are given responsibility for addressing a problem that requires more than a straightforward technical solution.

A collection of business evidence

This might include financial reports, workforce data, customer information, meeting notes, emails and conflicting stakeholder accounts.

Decisions under pressure

Participants must decide what information matters, what questions to ask, which priorities to address and what action to recommend.

Challenging stakeholder conversations

Professional actors can take on the roles of senior leaders, colleagues or other stakeholders. Participants must explain their thinking, respond to challenge and influence decisions.

Structured reflection and feedback

Our facilitators help participants examine their reasoning, the assumptions they made and the impact of their decisions.

Launched & Commercially Available

The Head of HR Simulation Suite

Resound has launched a specialized business simulation suite dedicated to senior People and People-partnering leaders navigating the transition to Head of HR and People Director roles.

Aligned to the CIPD Profession Map

The Head of HR Simulation Suite is designed around seven capabilities identified through analysis of Head of HR roles and aligned to the CIPD Profession Map standards for strategic people leadership.

Rather than abstract HR lectures, participants step into authentic organizational scenarios where strategic HR, employee relations, commercial realities, and leadership dynamics collide.

The Learning Approach

The suite integrates a multi-layered experiential methodology:

  • Realistic Organisational Scenarios: Stepping into complex, unfolding case studies of organisations experiencing change, cultural tension, or strategic shifts.
  • Group Analytical Exercises: Syndicate teams analysing workforce metrics, financial reports, and conflicting stakeholder evidence.
  • Actor-Led Stakeholder Conversations: Live encounters with professional actors portraying demanding Chief Executives, sceptical Finance Directors, and senior operational heads.
  • Reflective Logs & Portfolios: Structured self-assessment capturing decisions, assumptions, and emerging leadership approaches.
  • Optional One-to-One Coaching: Dedicated coaching follow-ups to embed insights directly into the participant's day-to-day role.
Now booking cohorts: The Head of HR Simulation Suite is fully launched and available across the UK and internationally, in face-to-face workshop formats or virtual delivery. Enquire below to discuss cohort scheduling and customisation.

What capabilities do business simulations develop?

Simulations provide a powerful testing ground for the core leadership, strategic, and relational competencies required in complex organisations:

Strategic business judgement & commercial awareness

Evaluating financial data, workforce metrics, and market conditions to make sound, defensible commercial trade-offs.

Decision-making under ambiguity

Navigating situations with incomplete information, contradictory evidence, and time pressure without losing clarity or direction.

Executive stakeholder influence

Pitching recommendations, answering tough questions from sceptical board members, and building alignment across differing agendas.

Cross-functional team collaboration

Debating alternative perspectives, managing disagreement productively, and creating unified team consensus under pressure.

Critical self-reflection & behavioural insight

Examining personal assumptions, communication habits, and leadership reflexes through structured facilitator feedback.

Leadership transitions & readiness

Preparing rising leaders for senior, enterprise-wide responsibilities by experiencing the weight of executive accountability.

Professional corporate actors

Our trained actors bring stakeholder meetings to life with nuance, emotion, and credible pushback, testing participants' interpersonal agility under realistic conditions.

Experienced, skilled facilitators

Our facilitators are experts at observing group dynamics, asking penetrating questions, and helping participants translate experiential insights into concrete workplace actions.

Leaders can test unfamiliar approaches, make mistakes, and learn from feedback without the financial, reputational, or interpersonal consequences of the real world.

Flexible face-to-face and virtual delivery

Whether you need an on-site workshop room experience across the UK or a high-impact virtual session for distributed teams, our simulations are optimized for maximum engagement.
